Winter time is definitely here – with last night clearly telling us that Mother Nature is still in control over the seasons. Even so, we all need to eat and keep warm. Cooking and baking is a good way to help keep our homes warm and allow humidity to be added to our indoor air.
Of course the winter doesn’t mean we give up on our outdoor BBQ grills and smokers either. For me, I love my food cooked on a grill but with the costs of heating a home I rather use my stove and oven. Even my counter top oven produces heat which benefits the home. During the summer months, since there is only the two of us, I make a lot of use of my counter top oven. My regular oven is also electric so this saves me on my electric bill.
So, now that winter is here, I can practice a lot on my baking and cooking skills without worrying that the extra heat will compete with the air conditioning. Let’s keep up with our heritage and keep the foods we grew up on alive in our lives. Invite our friends we make along the way to taste the foods we love. I can’t tell you how many of my non-Slavic friends I converted to knowing and loving our dishes.
